One of the first steps we ask of our Client’s prior to the initial design consultation and the start of the project is to create an “Idea Board“. Idea boards help communicate visually to the designer and other contractors exactly what the Client is envisioning in regards to style, materials, colors-finishes and layout. We also feel that these idea boards help us clearly explain what the cost of materials will determine so that our Client’s can set guidelines in budgeting.
To get started in creating your next idea board collect photo’s of room scenes, products, colors-finishes and so on from websites and home decor magazines. Use a 3 ring binder and plastic sheet covers to place your collected photos inside. Mark and label each picture of the things you want to see and do not want to see in the space. Other useful websites such as http://www.Houzz.com and Pintrest will let you add photographs to a shared file with the ability to type notes below each photo. You can then save this file to the site or share it.
Whether you are remodeling, building a new home or just wanting to decorating a space, creating the idea board will really be useful – especially when it comes to prioritizing and organizing your project!
